Appliance Repair – After The Rodents Are Eliminated

Posted on

If you've recently battled rodents in your home, you're likely in the process of undoing all of the damage that they did to your home while they resided in the walls, ceilings, and floors. Some of the most important things that must be inspected and repaired are the appliances throughout your home. Rodents can do quite a bit of damage to the wiring, tubing, and moving components in the appliances, and if you continue to use them while damaged, they could fail, cause a fire, or leak water. Here, you'll find a few tips to help you undo some of the damage the rodents have done to your home appliances.

Call an Appliance Repair Expert

A lot of appliance repairs aren't easily completed by your average do-it-yourselfer. There are so many components, both electronic and not, that can cause lots of problems if they're left unrepaired or repaired incorrectly.

If you don't have experience working with appliances, it's best to call a professional and have it taken care of for you. For one thing, you don't know what things are supposed to look like nor how to test for issues within each appliance. The repair professional will know exactly how to find damage caused by rodents and make the necessary repairs to prevent appliance failure or damage to your home.

Look for Evidence of Residence

You can see if the rodents have been inside or around the appliances with a careful inspection. Get a nice, bright flashlight. Pull the appliances out from the wall, just far enough for you to see along the sides and back of each unit.

Shine the light behind and look for tracks – you'll be able to see grime and droppings in these areas if the rodents had spent any time back there. If you see signs that they've been there, pull the appliance the rest of the way out and shine the light underneath it – sometimes, you'll be lucky enough to find a dead rodent or two under the appliance as they die when they chew into electrical wires.

Note All Traps

Before the appliance repair technician begins his or her work, make sure that you inform them of the location of traps that may be set around each of the appliances. It's never any fun to be startled by a snapping trap that you didn't know was there – nor is it any fun to have a finger snapped in one of those traps.

You can talk with your appliance repair technician to come up with a plan for how to get all of this work done and get your appliances back to 100% as quickly as possible.
